CIRTL & PROF-it Series: Inclusive Pedagogy workshop with Dr. Karen Fleming from JHU

The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) and the Professors-in-Training (PROF-it) segment of PROMISE: Maryland’s Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) are co-sponsoring a regional workshop on teaching. Come and learn a method of teaching that incorporates dynamic practices and learning styles and multicultural content to promote student academic success.

Dr. Karen Fleming is a Professor of Biophysics in the TC Jenkins Department of Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University. Her lab works in discovery to fill the scientific pipeline. “Her research is motivated by the power that a deep understanding of the physics/biology intersection can bring to disease, evolution, and biological design.”

Dr. Karen Fleming was awarded the 2016 Thomas E. Thompson Award from the Biophysical Society, a Department of Defense Career Award, the Arne Tiselius Young Investigator Award and the Johns Hopkins Diversity Leadership Council award.

In addition to her scientific accomplishments, she has been a champion of Women in STEM, getting awarded grants to run workshops and seminars to overcome bias and barriers to women in STEM fields.

Parking: Pay and display visitor and handicapped parking is available at the bottom of Walker Avenue and on the top-level of the Walker Avenue Garage. Parking is $2.00 per hour and payable by MasterCard, Visa or exact currency (no change provided). Meters are enforced Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. All other campus roadways and unmetered lots require a UMBC parking permit.
