Understanding Impact Factor & Avoiding the Demon of “Perfection” – July 2013 Workshops

Dr. Kevin Omland (UMBC Professor of Biology), presents two seminar for graduate students, postdocs, and faculty on July 9-10, 2013 at UMBC, Commons, Room 331

Sometimes, trying to be perfect means that you never get those drafts off of your desk or off of your computer screen. What about submitting them for publication? Did you know that journal articles are ranked? Find out about the rankings and ratings of various journals.

Professor Kevin Omland has more than 50 publications, that have been cited more than 3000 times. Dr. Omland provides his lectures for our academic community. Faculty, Postdocs, and graduate students are welcome to attend. These seminars were initially sponsored by a grant from Universidad Metropolitana, in Puerto Rico as part of their faculty development initiative that utilized best practices from PROMISE: Maryland’s AGEP and the ADVANCE Hispanic Women in STEM Project. Dr. Omland conducted the initial seminars in San Juan, Puerto Rico in May 2013.

These July 2013 seminars at UMBC are part of the “Writing for Publication” workshop for graduate students.  You do NOT need to be registered for the 2-day “Writing for Publication” event to participate in Dr. Omland’s  workshops.
