Protecting data from unauthorized access

Dear Grad students and Postdocs at UMBC,

The Maryland New Venture Fellowship for Cybersecurity is recruiting 6 (six) technologists (entrepreneurs with ideas on how to secure information systems, utilities, infrastructure, and supply chains) to start cohort 2 of this $1.3M program. A technologist is the team member with the entrepreneurial idea to develop; this invitation is open to all graduate students and postdocs from all majors and research areas, including social sciences. If you are interested in the opportunity please click below in "Fellow" or "Technologist" to submit your application.

Maryland New Venture Fellowship for Cybersecurity is an experiential learning program designed to create and support the development of cybersecurity companies across Maryland.

Created in partnership with bwtech, UMBC, the University System of Maryland, and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, funds cybersecurity entrepreneurs working in collaboration toward cyber solutions and technologies that impact the public. Entrepreneurs in the program also benefit from graduate student assistance, Entrepreneur in Residence mentorship, and faculty members’ research from Maryland universities.

The program is run in teams. Based on interest areas, teams of 3 people are formed.  Each team will include a graduate student Fellow, an entrepreneurial Mentor, and a Technologist from Maryland universities. Each team will translate technologies developed to secure our information systems, utilities, infrastructure, and supply chains into viable companies.

Over eight months, the teams will participate in a program that will carve a path forward towards commercialization and ultimately start a company. The goal is to develop an early-stage team that can translate the technology into a viable, successful enterprise. Teams will meet regularly and participate in curated programming designed to drive commercialization and rapid progress. Fellows will receive a stipend for up to $10,000, and Mentors will receive up to $8,000.
